ABOUT JOAN

Born in 1954, Joan Lawson grew up fascinated by art of all types. Her artistic path continued at the renowned Glasgow School of Art, where she honed her craft from 1972 to 1976. Emerging with a passion for creativity and an eye for experimentation, Joan embarked on a lifelong journey of making and teaching art.
In 1995, she founded the Robinwood Art School, a hub for creativity and exploration, where countless students have discovered their artistic voices under her guidance. Joan's studio is a playground of innovation, where brushes, colours, and unconventional tools collide in the pursuit of bold new ideas.
A teacher, mentor, and experimental artist, Joan believes art is not just a discipline but an adventure. Whether exploring fragmented forms, rich textures, or playful abstractions, her work reflects a boundless curiosity and a love for discovery.
When not creating, Joan inspires others to do the same, sharing her decades of expertise with students who come to Robinwood seeking both technique and inspiration. Joan’s artistic journey is one of resilience, creativity, and the belief that art has the power to transform lives.​​​​​
